Reporter Emily Jones sits down with environmental activist Thomas Frank to determine where we are currently with the lead contamination crisis in East Chicago, Indiana. Over a year has passed since levels of lead and other metals in the groundsoil of the superfund site were found to be over 200 times in excess of federal limits, resulting in emergency evacuations and an ongoing investigation into the quality of the water. Residents of Zones 2 and 3 still have not received any clear answers from the EPA and other agencies regarding the safety of their water. Public health continues to be in question as remediation begins, raising concerns about the safety surrounding the demolition of the West Calumet housing complex.
